Wounded Marine Has Photos Stolen And Manipulated On Facebook

***UPDATE: AS OF 20130117 IN RESPONSE TO THE THOUSANDS OF REPORTS, FACEBOOK REMOVED THE PHOTOS AS WELL AS THE FACEBOOK PAGE THEY WERE POSTED ON.

Christian Brown, a Marine wounded in Afghanistan in 2011, had his photos stolen from his facebook page. The anonymous user then posted them up on the page Soldiers are murderous rapists &they deserve to die. The user manipulated Christian’s photos for their own agenda.

According to ABC24.com Christian said “Someone deliberately went on my page and took the pictures off and is trying to destroy my name and the Marine Corps too and everything it’s done for me.”

Corporal Brown lost both legs and nearly his life in Afghanistan in December 2011. He’s still receiving treatment at a military hospital in Maryland. The Purple Heart recipient says the Facebook page is against everything he fought for.

“We’ve reported the page and other people have taken notice as well.” Brown continues, “I don’t know what to do at this point, I don’t know the person, I don’t know how I got targeted.”The stolen images were a few of Brown’s favorites. The first one is a picture of him in Afghanistan with a huge American flag flying behind him, the Facebook user put offensive writing over the image.

The second is the Marine going through rehabilitation learning to walk again. This caption pokes fun of his dedication to the Military. “They can say what they want, but until they’ve been in my shoes, until they’ve been in prosthetics and seen the things I’ve seen, no one can ever understand,” Brown says. Brown’s mother says she contacted Facebook and hasn’t received a response.

The founder of the Mid-South Wounded Warrior Project Dave Marek says “(Facebook) should take it down.” He says this kind of website can impact the healing process. “It makes me angry because it hurts all of them,” he says, “all them that have been hurt for us and are still suffering.”The manipulated image is hurtful to Brown, but it’s just another battle he’ll fight. “I did it for America,” Brown continues, “and I did it for everyone I love and all my friends and the people I fought beside and they can’t take that away from me.”

A Facebook spokesperson told abc24.com “Unfortunately, we don’t comment on specific individuals’ accounts, so we can’t provide any details on the record about this case.”

So according to facebook this kind of crap is ok, degrading this Marine as he tries to recover from wounds he received in combat.

I will not post the manipulated pictures, but here is the link to them, report them to facebook. Once they get so many reports, they can not turn a blind eye to this!

  1. I dont understand the people that do this. I have reported the photo as well as the group. As a vet myself, I am beyond outraged and furious that someone would stoop so low and make fun of wounded warriors. The person that did this should go to war and see what we have to go threw.

  2. Thankfully the page has been taken down and his pictures are no longer being used to hurt him or/and anyone else. I would like to know which hospital he is at so that I can go and say Thank you for all he has done and given. I do live in the DC area.

  3. I was one of the ones that reported it and initially received feedback saying they did not violate FB policy. Glad to see they changed their position.

  4. This sounds like a page that Westboro Church would be create! If your unaware who they are Google the Bastards! They target military funerals with screaming & posters slandering our Heroes in the Military at their time of funerals, their intent is to totally disrespect our Heroes and their families! They thrive on this kind of sick behavior!
FB must have a way to see their IP address! We all have an email that gives us access to FB.. I say we hit FB with demanding an investigation!
Westboro Church people IF it is one of their followers THRIVE for attention, especially negative attention! They have a huge legal team and tons of money!

  5. Not commenting, and not doing something about it are two vastly different things. They did take the page down…so they did do something about it.

  6. Dunno if you guys checked out the comments on the ABC24 story, but there is some dude claiming to be the guy who made the page. He says that he just started a new page after Facebook shut his old one down that has the same CPL Brown pics on it. Here is his comment regarding the new page:

Sup guys! Just letting you know my new page is now up, containing the same picture of Cpl. Brown, plus a couple more that I made over the weekend featuring other paid murderers for enforcement of totalitarian US foreign policy. Freedom of speech works both ways! Not just in the favor of murderers. Your efforts are fruitless, you are obviously quite new to the internet and freedom of information.

What's on your mind?
