I had the pleasure of meeting Shannon Book in Fayetteville, North Carolina this year. We were all invited to the 2nd Annual Warrior Jams, an event for Soldiers and Veterans put together by an awesome woman named Rachel.
I met Shannon when SoldierHard and myself went out for a few drinks, he walked over to out table and introduced himself. We all spoke for a while, and he said he would be performing the next day. Nothing Mr. Book said prepared me for one of the songs he would do.
Shannon said he was asked to write a song for Gold Star Mom’s, Mothers that have lost their sons and daughters in combat. He called all the Gold Star Families up on the stage, and I watched and listened as the emotions swept over all of us. I saw the mother’s on stage begin to weep, and I am a strong man, but this was deep. Here is Shannon’s song, as you are listening, picture a GSM standing in front of you, and her tears flowing.
