DNC Accidentally Shows Russian Naval Ships During Tribute to Veterans

According to the Navy Times, the Democratic national Convention accidentally displayed Russian Federations Naval Ships.

The article is quoted as saying:

“On the last night of the Democratic National Convention, a retired Navy four-star took the stage to pay tribute to veterans. Behind him, on a giant screen, the image of four hulking warships reinforced his patriotic message.

But there was a big mistake in the stirring backdrop: those are Russian warships.

While retired Adm. John Nathman, a former commander of Fleet Forces Command, honored vets as America’s best, the ships from the Russian Federation Navy were arrayed like sentinels on the big screen above.

These were the very Soviet-era combatants that Nathman and Cold Warriors like him had once squared off against.

“The ships are definitely Russian,” said noted naval author Norman Polmar after reviewing hi-resolution photos from the event. “There’s no question of that in my mind.””

Soon after the the DNC submitted an apology saying it was a vendor error.

“Democratic officials apologized Wednesday for mistakenly displaying an image of the Russian Navy during a tribute to America’s veterans at last week’s Democratic National Convention. But they also used their response to take a swipe at Republican rival Mitt Romney.

The Russian warships, many of Soviet-era origin, were shown on a giant screen Sept. 6 above 50 veterans while retired Adm. John Nathman honored veterans’ contributions to America. The former sailor who spotted the error and notified Navy Times had asked for an apology.

The Democratic National Convention Committee did just that in a statement Wednesday, but also criticized Romney for failing to mention service members during his convention speech in Tampa, Fla.

“Due to vendor error, incorrect images appeared briefly on screen behind fifty-one veterans during the convention and the DNCC apologizes for this mistake,” the statement said. “This error should not distract from the words of Admiral Nathman and others who spoke to President Obama’s strong record on issues that impact those who have served our nation. We’re proud of the service and sacrifice of our veterans and military families, and while they were an important and active part our of convention, Mitt Romney failed to even mention them in his speech in Tampa.””

I would be firing me a vendor for sure! I do not think it was disrespectful, just a mistake, and a pretty funny one if you ask me.

  1. i dont care that mitt romney didnt mention Vets or service members in his speech. The GOP already has an outstanding record of supporting its troops, where as the democrats have a longstanding tie to hippies and anti-military groups

    • really? because the way i see it, the military has become more unorganized and less about being the military of the strongest nation on earth under obama so his words are just that, words.

  2. SO like the Dems to blame someone else and then spin it to reflect bad on Romney…haha. As a Cold War Vet, this is very offensive but I would, truthfully, respect them if they just owned their mistakes and then I could lend credence to their apologies.

  3. I was there and saw this. I noticed right away that the ships weren’t American ships and wondered right away what the vets on stage thought. Evidently, the vendor made a mistake in choosing footage of war ships. Easy to do if you weren’t in the military, but I would have thought at the very least someone would have previewed the footage. I just giggled at the mistake. I thought the gesture of honoring the vets on stage was very nice.
